Revanth Reddy meets Amit Shah over Telangana IPS strength

Telangana: Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday night urged Union home minister Amit Shah to allocate additional Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to the state to meet growing administrative needs.
During a meeting in New Delhi, the chief minister said the first cadre review for Telangana took place in 2016 after the state’s formation. The next review, scheduled for 2021, was delayed and conducted only in 2025.
Reddy said the review increased the cadre strength by only seven IPS officers. He told the Union home minister that Telangana faces modern policing challenges including cybercrime, drug trafficking and white-collar offences.
State seeks cadre increase to 105 officers
The chief minister said more IPS officers are needed due to the reorganisation of the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri police commissionerates, the proposed Future City commissionerate and rapid population growth in Hyderabad.
He requested the Centre to conduct the third cadre review in the scheduled year of 2026 and increase the state’s IPS strength from the current 83 officers to 105.
Maoist surrenders and rehabilitation discussed
Amit Shah and Revanth Reddy also discussed Maoist surrenders and rehabilitation measures in Telangana.
The chief minister told the Union home minister that policing in the state has seen significant changes in the past two years. He said 591 Maoists have laid down arms and joined the mainstream.
Reddy added that several senior Maoist leaders have also expressed willingness to return to normal life. He briefed Shah about compensation and rehabilitation measures being provided to surrendered cadres under government norms.
The chief minister also sought central assistance for development works in backward regions of the state.
Chief minister’s principal secretary V. Seshadri, Telangana director general of police B. Shivadhar Reddy, Intelligence additional director general Vijay Kumar and State Intelligence Bureau inspector general B. Sumathi attended the meeting.
