Telangana Inter students to get tear-resistant marks memos
HYDERABAD: Intermediate students in Telangana will get tear-resistant and waterproof marks memos from this year, with the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) introducing the new format to improve durability and prevent damage.
The memos will be made of a special synthetic material instead of regular paper. Officials said they will not tear even when pulled hard and will withstand exposure to water.
Around four lakh students to receive new memos
Around 9.50 lakh students take the Intermediate examinations in the state every year. Of them, about four lakh second-year students who pass the examinations will receive the new memos.
The move follows problems faced by students during heavy rains and floods in the past. Water entered several homes and damaged students’ marks memos, prompting the government to issue duplicate copies free of cost to those affected.
The Board subsequently considered introducing marks memos that could withstand water and tearing and is implementing the proposal from this academic year.
Officials said even if the new memos are accidentally exposed to water, the printed details will not fade and the material will not soften. Students will, therefore, not need to get the memos laminated separately.
Colour photographs aim to curb fake certificates
Until now, only black-and-white photographs were printed on marks memos. The Board has decided to replace them with colour photographs of second-year students from this year.
The Board believes the change will make identification easier and help prevent the use of fake certificates.
Long memos are generally issued in September or October. With admissions to higher education currently under way, however, the Board is taking steps to distribute the new memos to around four lakh students by August 15 to avoid inconvenience during the admission process.
