Imd Issues Red Alert For Telangana As Heavy Rains Forecast

HYDERABAD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a red alert for several districts of Telangana, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and squalls over the next few days.

According to IMD officials, intense spells are expected in the southern and central parts of the state, with some areas likely to receive 90–150 mm of rainfall. The weather department has also cautioned residents about the possibility of gusty winds during the thunderstorms.

Moderate rains for Hyderabad

For Hyderabad, IMD has predicted moderate rains during the afternoon, with rainfall activity expected to reduce by evening. The city may experience three to four spells of moderate to heavy showers through the day, with intermittent breaks. Misty or hazy conditions are likely during the mornings until October 31.

Red alert across several districts

The IMD’s red alert covers multiple districts, urging citizens to stay indoors during severe weather and avoid waterlogged or low-lying areas. The Telangana weatherman, known for accurate forecasts, also warned of very heavy downpours in North and East Telangana on October 29, with rainfall of 100–150 mm in red-marked districts.

Central Telangana districts may receive 40–70 mm of rain, while southern parts are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall.

Experts have advised authorities to remain on high alert and take necessary precautions to prevent rain-related incidents such as flooding and power disruptions.
