Telangana Holi bath incidents leave five dead, three missing

HYDERABAD : Holi celebrations ended in tragedy across Telangana on Tuesday as five people died and three went missing after entering ponds and rivers for a bath.
Police said the incidents occurred in Medchal–Malkajgiri, Nizamabad, Rangareddy and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.
Two teenagers drown in Suraram pond
Two teenagers from Vishwakarma Colony in Suraram under Quthbullapur constituency of Medchal–Malkajgiri district drowned in a pond after Holi celebrations.
Sagar, 17, and Abhishek, 17, had played Holi with friends and later went to Panthulu Cheruvu for a bath.
The two entered the pond despite not knowing how to swim and drowned, police said.
Two youths die in Manjeera River near Bodhan
Saikumar, 20, and Roni Choudhary, 19, residents of Achanpalli in Bodhan town of Nizamabad district, died after drowning in the Manjeera River near Salura.
They had celebrated Holi with friends and later went to the river for a bath but slipped into deeper waters.
Teen dies in Armoor pond
Harshith, 15, from the Gol Bangla area in Armoor town of Nizamabad district, drowned in Gundla Cheruvu after entering the water for a bath following Holi celebrations.
Police said the boy did not know swimming.
Student missing in Shadnagar pond
Raju, 20, from Kothapalli village in Ieeja mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district, went missing after drowning in a pond near Raikal village in Farooqnagar mandal of Rangareddy district.
Raju, a degree student at a Gurukul college in Shadnagar, had gone to the pond with friends after playing Holi. Police launched a search operation.
Two persons missing in Godavari at Manuguru
Two persons went missing in the Godavari River near Mallepalli in Manuguru town of Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Paddam Prasad, 35, and Gundi Nageswara Rao, 39, residents of Kotha Padmagudem, had gone to the river for leisure.
After cooking food on the riverbank, they entered the water for a bath and moved into a deeper area where they went missing.
Prasad works at Singareni Collieries, while Nageswara Rao is a lorry driver. Police launched search operations with expert swimmers.
