Telangana steps up Japan partnership to power youth skills and jobs
HYDERABAD: Telangana has reached a preliminary agreement with Japan’s Hiroshima Institute of Technology (HIT) to partner with Young India Skills University (YISU). The partnership will focus on engineering education, student exchange, faculty training and industry-linked skill development.
Minister for Labour, Employment, Training and Factories, Mines and Geology Gaddam Vivek Venkat Swamy said the partnership would bring international technical education and skill training closer to Telangana’s youth. He said it would also create new opportunities for employment and industry exposure.
Student exchange, faculty training to form key parts
A Telangana delegation led by Vivek Venkat Swamy visited HIT in Hiroshima on Friday. The delegation held discussions with the institute’s leadership on technical education, skill development and industry-ready training.
The two sides agreed to identify areas of cooperation based on Telangana’s skills, technology and industrial needs.
Student exchange will form a key part of the proposed HIT-YISU partnership. Telangana students will get exposure to Japan’s technical education system, laboratory-based learning and industry practices. They will also have opportunities for practical technical training.
The institutions will explore faculty development and Training of Trainers programmes. They will also consider short-term technical courses, research projects and direct industry exposure.
The partners will select priority areas based on Telangana’s local needs and future employment opportunities.
Focus on advanced manufacturing, mobility and AI
The discussions covered several emerging fields. These include advanced manufacturing, mobility, automobile technology, artificial intelligence, electronics, automation, digital technologies and environmental technology.
Vivek Venkat Swamy said HIT’s engineering expertise could support Telangana’s growing industrial and technical sectors.
He said Telangana wants to move beyond conventional academic exchanges. The proposed programmes will focus on skills, employability, technology transfer and industry needs.
The delegation also discussed HIT’s approach to combining classroom learning with laboratory work and real-world industrial challenges. The minister said YISU and Telangana’s technical education system could adopt similar models.
Meanwhile, Vivek Venkat Swamy invited HIT representatives to visit Hyderabad and tour YISU. He also proposed that both sides prepare a detailed action plan through further discussions.
The minister invited HIT representatives to attend the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2026 in Hyderabad in December. He also encouraged them to explore wider institutional and industrial partnerships with Telangana.
He said the proposed partnership reflects Telangana’s efforts to build direct ties with leading universities, technical institutions and industries in Japan.
The initiative is expected to expand access to technical education, industry exposure and skill development for Telangana’s youth.
