Telangana High Court rejects stay on Janwada farmhouse demolition
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has rejected a plea by realtor Pradeep Reddy Badvelu for a stay on the demolition of his Janwada farmhouse. The High Court has directed the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to proceed in accordance with Government Order (GO) 99, which pertains to the demolition of the property located in Janwada village, Shankarpalle Mandal, Ranga Reddy District.
Pradeep Reddy Badvelu, a 47-year-old businessman residing at Plot No. 827, Road No. 44, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, had sought the court’s intervention to halt the demolition. He claims to have purchased the farmhouse, which spans 3,895.12 square feet on a 1,210 square yard plot, from D and U Realty Ventures LLP through a registered sale deed dated September 11, 2019.
In his petition, Pradeep Badvelu argued that the farmhouse was constructed with proper authorisation from the Gram Panchayat on September 12, 2014. He contends that the property is situated outside the Full Tank Level (FTL) and the Osman Sagar Lake buffer zone, in compliance with FTL maps and guidelines. He also asserted that he owns adjacent land and provided documentation showing that the property is outside the 30-meter restriction from the lake’s FTL boundary.
The controversy escalated when Anumula Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister and former Member of Parliament, filed a petition with the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Revanth Reddy alleged that the farmhouse was constructed illegally within the GO 111 area, designated for the protection of the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs. He further claimed that the farmhouse belonged to a prominent minister associated with K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and accused Pradeep Badvelu of acting as a proxy for KTR.
In response, the NGT issued an interim stay on the tribunal’s orders. Pradeep Badvelu then approached the High Court again, alleging that the demolition efforts were driven by ulterior motives and falsely linked to political figures as a means to address encroachments and illegal constructions in the GO 111 area through the establishment of HYDRAA. He named the HYDRAA commissioner as a respondent in his petition.
The High Court’s decision will be pivotal, as KTR has consistently denied any connection to the farmhouse, while the Congress party continues to support Revanth Reddy’s claims.
