TG High Court issues notices over Kaleshwaram barrages

Govt Tells Hc Ghosh Panel Confirmed Kcr’s Irregularities In Kaleshwaram Project

Telangana : The Telangana High Court has issued notices to the Union government, the Telangana government, the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) and other authorities on a petition concerning the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The petition seeks their response on the safety and restoration of key project structures.

The petition, filed by an advocate, alleged that despite water flowing downstream into the sea, the Medigadda barrage pillars have not been repaired and that the issue is being politicised. It further contended that successive governments have failed to protect and safely utilise the Kaleshwaram project.

Plea seeks restoration as per NDSA recommendations

Appearing for the petitioner, counsel urged the court to direct the Telangana government to restore the Medigadda barrage pillars in accordance with the NDSA report to safeguard farmers’ interests. The petitioner also sought an independent technical assessment of the remaining reservoirs and project components by the NDSA, followed by a detailed report on their safety and usability.

Court seeks explanation on barrages and pump houses

After hearing the arguments, the High Court issued notices seeking explanations from the Telangana government, the Union government, the NDSA and other concerned authorities regarding the safety of the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, as well as the Kannepalli and Sundilla pump houses.
