Telangana High Court adjourns Sai Bhageerath’s bail plea in POCSO case to July 8

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing of the regular bail petition filed by Bandi Bhageerath, also known as Sai Bhageerath, to July 8 in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Justice K. Sujana deferred the matter after the State sought additional time to place its response before the court. Bhageerath is facing prosecution in a case registered at Petbasheerabad police station under provisions of the POCSO Act and the BNS.
The petitioner is in judicial custody after surrendering before the authorities at Cherlapally Central Prison on June 25, following the completion of a one-week interim bail granted to enable him to appear for his university supplementary examinations. His judicial remand continues.
Bhageerath was earlier lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail before being shifted to Cherlapally Central Prison. In his bail petition, the defence has maintained that he is innocent and has alleged that the case was filed with malicious intent. It has also contended that there was an unexplained delay in lodging the complaint. The prosecution is expected to present its response at the next hearing.
The High Court is scheduled to hear the matter again on July 8.
