Telangana on high alert as heavy rains lash state, CS directs preventive measures

Telangana On High Alert

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has placed the state on high alert after heavy rain lashed several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rainfall over the next two days.

On Thursday, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju held a video conference with district collectors, police commissioners and superintendents of police. He reviewed the preparedness of all departments and directed officials to take preventive steps to protect lives and property.

Jaju asked every district headquarters to operate a 24-hour control room. These control rooms will monitor the situation and coordinate emergency response without delay.

Tourist spots and reservoirs under close watch

The Chief Secretary instructed district authorities to closely monitor waterfalls, tourist destinations and 249 vulnerable reservoirs across the state. As a precaution, officials have stopped public entry to risky picnic spots.

Meanwhile, collectors in the Godavari basin must remain on high alert. They will issue timely warnings to people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

The government has deployed 12 companies of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on standby. If needed, it will also seek support from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Director General of Police C V Anand said the police are working closely with all departments. He added that they will ensure public safety and provide assistance wherever required.

Farmers advised to prepare for below-normal September rainfall

The Chief Secretary also urged collectors to create awareness among farmers about alternative crops and vegetables. The IMD has forecast below-normal rainfall in September because of El Niño conditions.

In addition, the government said the Hare Krishna Foundation will procure produce from farmers who switch to alternative cultivation.
