Heavy rain alert for Telangana as IMD forecasts widespread showers for seven days

HYDERABAD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Telangana over the next seven days. Several districts may receive heavy to very heavy rain, while Hyderabad experienced light rain and drizzle throughout Saturday.

According to the IMD, a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal will influence weather across the state. Most districts are likely to receive moderate rain or thundershowers on Sunday.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Mahbubabad, Suryapet and Kamareddy districts.

Northern Telangana to experience strong winds

The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts.

Between July 5 and July 6, heavy rain may continue in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are also likely during this period.

Rainfall likely to ease after July 6

Rainfall activity is expected to weaken slightly after July 6. However, many parts of Telangana may continue to receive light to moderate rain. Northern districts could also witness isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds, the IMD said.
