Cyclone Motha brings heavy rain forecast for Telangana districts

HYDERABAD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain across Telangana as Cyclone Motha continues to weaken while moving towards Chhattisgarh. Several parts of the state are expected to receive heavy showers, the department warned.

Officials have advised people to step out only if necessary. With streams and rivulets already in spate, authorities cautioned that travel may become dangerous. Residents have been urged not to attempt crossing rivers or streams, and to avoid entering rivers even for Karthika Masam ritual baths.

IMD issues alert for multiple districts

According to the IMD, heavy rain is likely in Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal–Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Komaram Bheem districts.

In Suryapet district, Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar has declared a holiday for schools on Wednesday in view of the weather conditions. Officials said rainfall may continue on Thursday as well.

Cyclone impact expected despite weakening

Though Cyclone Motha has weakened, the IMD said its impact will continue over Telangana, bringing strong winds and widespread rain. Hyderabad and several other districts have already been experiencing rain since Tuesday, and the department predicted more showers throughout Wednesday.
