Telangana Swelters Under Intense Heat; Storms Brewing In South And Central Regions

Hyderabad: The Telangana Weatherman has issued a weather advisory warning of extremely hot conditions across the state, followed by scattered intense storms in Southern and Central Telangana. Northern Telangana is expected to continue facing severe heat without relief.

In Hyderabad, scattered evening to night storms are likely, with higher chances of rainfall expected over the next few hours. According to the advisory, thunderstorms have already begun in parts of Medchal, Rangareddy, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, and Yadadri-Bhongir. Hyderabad is likely to experience scattered rainfall within the next three hours.

Earlier, on the evening of April 18, Hyderabad was hit by heavy rain and strong winds, which led to the uprooting of over 60 trees across the city. The sudden change in weather caused traffic disruptions and power outages in multiple areas.

The Disaster Response Force (DRF), under the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Awareness Authority (HYDRAA), was deployed immediately. Around 30 DRF teams focused on clearing fallen trees, particularly on major roads and areas facing power cuts. Clearance operations were carried out at locations including Saroor Nagar Police Station.

Affected areas included Vijayanagar Colony, Kukatpally, Darussalam, High Court, BN Reddy Nagar, Falaknuma, Sultan Bazaar, Kachiguda, Sindhi Colony, and Methodist Colony. Most incidents were reported from Nampally, Malakpet, Saroor Nagar, and parts of the Old City.

DRF teams were also stationed at known waterlogging points to prevent flooding. HYDRAA officials reported that approximately 70% of complaints were resolved by the end of the night, with efforts continuing in remaining areas.
