Telangana records 46°C heat; Nirmal tops list

HYDERABAD: Temperatures continue to rise across Telangana, with several districts recording extreme heat. Dasturabad in Nirmal district registered 46°C for the second consecutive day, the highest in the state.
Koratpalli in Nizamabad recorded 45.9°C, followed by Satnala in Adilabad at 45.6°C, Kollur in Kamareddy at 45.5°C, and Potareddipet in Siddipet at 45.2°C. At least eight districts reported temperatures above 45°C.
North Telangana districts fall in heat core zone
Weather officials said northern districts are witnessing higher temperatures compared to southern parts of the state. Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Warangal, Jagtial, Karimnagar and Kumram Bheem Asifabad fall within a “heat core zone”, intensifying the impact.
They added that the El Niño effect is more pronounced in these regions, contributing to the rise in temperatures.
Heatwave linked to winds, groundwater decline, industry
Experts said hot winds from the north are pushing temperatures higher. Reduced greenery and falling groundwater levels are worsening conditions.
Industrial zones and coal mining areas are also contributing to rising heat levels. While southern districts fare slightly better due to higher elevation, cities like Hyderabad continue to record high temperatures due to urban heat island effects caused by dense concrete structures.
Temperatures begin rising sharply by 9 am, and afternoon heat remains intense, making outdoor movement difficult.
