HYDERABAD: A two-day spell of unseasonal rain ended on Tuesday as dry winds began sweeping across Telangana, signalling a sharp rise in temperatures over the coming days.

Weather observers said heat will gradually intensify from February 26. Conditions are expected to worsen after February 28, with intense heat likely in several parts of the state.

Intense heatwave likely from March 2

An intense heatwave is forecast between March 2 and March 7, particularly in east and north Telangana. Day temperatures may touch 40°C in a few places during this period.

Hyderabad is also likely to see a rise in mercury levels, with maximum temperatures expected to cross 37°C.

Temperatures to rise steadily

The increase in temperature follows the withdrawal of the unseasonal rain spell and the entry of dry winds into the region. Residents may need to brace for peak summer conditions earlier than usual.

With temperatures climbing steadily, cooling appliances such as air coolers and air-conditioners are expected to be in demand from next week.
