Telangana HC grants relief to suspended trainee IPS officer

Telangana High Court IPS Uday Krishna Reddy

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has set aside an order allowing a potency test on suspended trainee IPS officer M Uday Krishna Reddy.

The test was sought by police in connection with a case involving the alleged sexual assault of a fellow trainee woman IPS officer.

Justice J Srinivas Rao allowed Reddy’s criminal petition. The court also set aside the August 17, 2026, order passed by the III Additional Junior Civil Judge-cum-XXV Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class, Ranga Reddy district, Rajendranagar, as reported by DC.

Reddy challenged potency test

The lower court had allowed the investigating officer to conduct a potency examination under Section 52 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Reddy then approached the High Court. He sought to quash the lower court order and reject the police request for the examination.

The High Court allowed his plea and set aside the order. However, the court clarified that this would not prevent the prosecution from approaching it again if the need arose at a later stage.

Relief against immediate examination

As a result, the suspended trainee IPS officer has received relief against the immediate conduct of the potency test.

However, the order does not end the criminal proceedings related to the allegations. The case remains subject to the ongoing investigation and further proceedings before the court.
