HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court directed the central government on Monday to release the pending pension of retired High Court judge Justice G. Sri Devi. The two-judge bench, comprising Justice P. Sam Koshy and Justice Narsing Rao Nandikonda, recorded Additional Solicitor General Narasimha Sharma’s statement that the Accountant General’s office submitted proposals on March 13.

Justice Sri Devi had filed a writ petition claiming her pension was meagre and violated the “one rank, one pension” principle. She had started her career as an additional district judge in Uttar Pradesh in 2005 and became an additional judge at the Allahabad High Court in November 2018. She later transferred to the Telangana High Court and retired in October 2022 upon reaching superannuation age.

The petitioner stated that in 2024, the government offered her a choice between the old and new pension schemes. She opted for the old scheme. Communications from the Directorate of Treasury and Accounts indicated that Telangana had issued no instructions for sanctioning service or family pensions for officials retired from central service.

The court noted that the delay occurred because authorities mistakenly assumed she was a state government employee. The judges directed the officials to finalize the eligible pension within eight weeks.

Child Custody Case Resolved

In another case, Justice T. Madhavi Devi closed a contempt proceeding against a father for not following interim custody directions. The court overturned a Child Welfare Committee order that had granted him custody.

The petition came from the child’s maternal grandparents, G. Viswanadha Naidu and another, after their daughter passed away. The court restored custody to the grandparents until the Family Court decides on guardianship. It allowed the father visitation rights and weekend custody.

Cricket Stadium Dues: Authorities Given Final Chance

Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka gave the Hyderabad Cricket Association and other authorities a final opportunity to release dues for stadium seating at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.

M/s Keyura, the petitioner, completed the supply and installation of 39,338 tip-up chairs for ₹8.50 crore. Authorities already released ₹6.62 crore, but ₹3.40 crore and a ₹5 lakh Earnest Money Deposit remain unpaid. The court warned that failure to pay could lead to further contempt proceedings.
