Telangana HC junks plea to stay Group 1 results

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court junked the plea seeking an order to stall the results of Group 1 examinations conducted by Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC).
The petitioners had contended that the reservation issue is yet to be resolved, therefore, they sought the court’s intervention in the matter. The bench heard the arguments of the petitioners and dismissed their plea.
The TGPSC conducted the Group 1 Mains examinations for the recruitment of various Group-I category posts in October 2024. The recruitment went ahead with the exam schedule after the Supreme Court refused to grant a stay on the conduct of examinations on the ground that cancelling examinations at this state would lead to chaos.
Over 31,000 candidates appeared for Group-I mains examination held at 45 centres across Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts in October 2024.
The Group 1 Services exams were held after a long gap of 13 years. TGPSC seeks to fill 563 Group-I posts, including for deputy collectors, revenue divisional officers, municipal commissioners, deputy superintendents of police and mandal parishad development officers.
Earlier, the Supreme Court declined to intervene in a plea seeking the postponement of the Telangana Group-1 Mains examination. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud refused to delay the examination.
The petition, filed by candidate Pogula Rambabu, urged the postponement and cancellation of the Group-1 exam. Senior Advocate, representing Rambabu, argued that the exam, which had not been held for 14 years, should be postponed due to concerns over unfair treatment of candidates. He pointed out issues like sudden changes to study materials and legal uncertainties caused by recent government orders.
The Supreme Court bench also noted that postponing a public service examination at such short notice would cause significant disruption. The bench asked the High Court to resolve the legal uncertainties surrounding the exam before any final results are published.
