Telangana High Court Building Related To Family Land Dispute Ruling

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has asked a 33-year-old farmer to pay ₹1 lakh to his 77-year-old grandmother in a family property dispute. It also stayed the earlier land transfer order issued by the Nalgonda district collector.

Justice B Vijaysen Reddy issued the interim order while he heard the farmer’s plea against the collector’s directive.

The dispute began after a July 2025 order directed the transfer of land back to the elderly woman. However, the petitioners argued that the order was vague and arbitrary. They also said it did not follow the provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

During the hearing, the farmer, his father, his mentally challenged younger brother, and the grandmother appeared before the court. Meanwhile, the court closely examined the family’s property arrangements.

Court flags exclusion of vulnerable family members

The court found that the family had divided and transferred parts of the land without giving any share to the grandmother or the mentally challenged sibling. Therefore, Justice Reddy questioned this decision. He noted that the grandmother had no share in her own property. Moreover, he pointed out that the son was also left out.

After several discussions, the farmer agreed to transfer ₹1 lakh as a lump sum to the woman’s account. Thus, the court recorded the agreement.

Collector’s order stayed for four months

Following this, the court stayed the collector’s land transfer order for four months and granted interim relief. Meanwhile, it scheduled the next hearing for August 14, 2025.
