Ponnam Prabhakar to head select committee on Telangana Hate Speech Bill

HYDERABAD: Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has formed a select committee to examine the Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2026. The move follows the motion adopted by the Assembly on March 30.

State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will chair the committee. The panel includes N Balu Naik, Laxmikantha Rao Thota, G Madhusudan Reddy, K Rajesh Reddy, M Yashaswini and Danam Nagender from the Congress.
The committee also includes Kova Lakshmi and K Manik Rao from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Rama Rao Pawar from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), and Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao from the Communist Party of India (CPI).
Report due before monsoon session ends
An Assembly bulletin issued late on Monday directed the committee to submit its report on or before the last day of the monsoon session.
The Speaker also announced the Welfare and Other Joint Committees, the Legislative Council Committees, and the Joint Committees of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council for 2026–27.
