Telangana Govt to include Urdu films in Gaddar Cinema Awards for first time

Hyderabad: The Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC) has officially announced the launch of the Gaddar Cinema Awards. The state government issued orders on March 11, 2025, outlining the guidelines for these prestigious awards. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had previously promised to establish the awards, and the government has now released G.O. Ms. No. 25, G.O. (I & PR), dated March 11, 2025, to formalize the initiative.
The Gaddar Cinema Awards aim to recognize significant contributions to the Telangana film industry. Among the special honors to be awarded are tributes to prominent personalities such as Paidi Jayaraj and Kantha Rao. Additionally, the government will continue the award for the most popular film, named in honor of renowned actor M. Prabhakar Reddy. As no film awards were granted between 2014 and 2023, the government has decided to retrospectively award the Best Feature Film for each of those years.
In a notable first, the Gaddar Cinema Awards will also include awards for Urdu-language films in the Feature Film category. Applications for the awards will open on March 13, 2025, at the Telangana Film Industry Development Corporation office, located at AC Guards.
The awards will recognize films across several categories, including Feature Films, National Integration Films, Children’s Films, Environmental/Historical/Heritage Films, Debut Feature Films, Animation Films, Social Impact Films, Documentary Films, and Short Films. Additionally, there will be awards for Books/Analytical Articles on Telugu Cinema and Individual Awards for Artists and Technicians.
The announcement was made by the Special Commissioner of the Information and Public Relations Department.
