Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla Unveiling Telangana Thalli Statue At The State Assembly Premises In Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Shiv Pratap Shukla, Governor of Telangana, unveiled a statue of Telangana Thalli at the State Legislature premises on March 16.

Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Chairman of the Legislative Council, attended the event.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and several cabinet ministers were also present.

Symbol of the statehood movement

Telangana Thalli (Mother Telangana) symbolises the spirit of the Telangana statehood movement. The figure inspired many activists who participated in the agitation for a separate state.

Earlier, on December 9, 2024, A. Revanth Reddy unveiled another Telangana Thalli statue at the State Secretariat.

Political debate over statue design

The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi criticised the Congress government over the design of the statue. Party leaders said the new version differs from the image earlier promoted by the regional party.

Responding to the criticism, A. Revanth Reddy said the previous government did not unveil an official image of Mother Telangana even after the formation of the state in 2014.

“Telangana Thalli faced discrimination for 10 years,” the chief minister said.

He added that the government finalised the design to reflect the aspirations of the bahujan communities who fought for Telangana statehood.
