Telangana Governor, Andhra CM slash convoy vehicles amid fuel-saving push
HYDERABAD: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday announced a 50% reduction in the number of vehicles in his convoy, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for austerity amid the West Asia conflict.
Shukla said the Prime Minister had set an example by downsizing his own motorcade. He added that he had already reduced the size of his convoy after assuming office in Telangana.
“Still, I have decided that Lok Bhavan will cut its vehicle strength by 50 per cent,” the Governor told reporters.

He said he would urge the Chief Minister to advise cabinet colleagues and officials to adopt similar measures.
Shukla also appealed to political leaders across the state to reduce avoidable vehicles in their convoys. He said such measures would help create awareness among people about austerity and contribute to saving foreign exchange.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reduced the size of his official convoy by more than half as part of austerity measures announced by the state government.
According to an official release, Naidu’s convoy was reduced to four vehicles from 11 following his directions.
The Chief Minister travelled from his residence in Undavalli in Guntur district to the Secretariat in the streamlined convoy on Thursday morning.
Naidu had backed the Prime Minister’s austerity appeal on May 13, citing the global economic impact of the US-Iran war.
Calling large convoys a “fashion”, he advised public representatives to reduce the number of vehicles in their motorcades and cut down on excessive security arrangements to “set an example”.
He also urged people to adopt lifestyle changes to support the national economy. Naidu suggested choosing domestic tourist destinations instead of overseas travel, working from home where possible and reducing fuel consumption.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also reduced the number of vehicles in his convoy by 50%.
