Telangana doctors call for thorough investigation into Kolkata doctor’s murder, rape
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) has expressed profound grief and condemnation following the brutal murder of a 31-year-old female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The doctor, who had been on duty, was discovered dead on August 9 after being sexually assaulted, an incident that has ignited nationwide outrage and raised serious concerns about the safety of medical professionals, particularly women, across the country.
In a statement released today, the TGGDA conveyed their deep sorrow over the tragic death of the doctor, who was not only a dedicated healthcare professional but also a beloved daughter, sister, and friend. The association’s statement read, “This tragic and horrifying event has left us all devastated and in a state of deep mourning. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and colleagues during this tough time.”
The TGGDA has called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the murder, highlighting the need for the culprits to be swiftly identified, apprehended, and brought to justice. “This incident represents a grave injustice to the victim and her family and poses a serious threat to the safety of all doctors who dedicate their lives to serving others,” the statement continued.
The association urged the government and relevant authorities to take immediate and concrete steps to enhance the safety and security of doctors, with a particular focus on protecting women in medical colleges, hospitals, and other healthcare institutions. They advocated for the implementation of stringent safety measures, including increased security personnel, improved surveillance systems, and tailored emergency response protocols to address the specific needs of female healthcare professionals.
