Girls bag 66% of Telangana MBBS admissions this year

HYDERABAD: Girls have outperformed boys in MBBS admissions across Telangana this academic year, securing a majority of seats under both convener and management quotas.
According to the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), girls claimed 66.47% of seats in government medical colleges under the convener quota. Of the 5,789 students admitted under this category, 3,848 were girls and 1,941 boys.
Girls ahead in management quota too
In private colleges, girls continued to maintain an edge, winning 1,427 out of 2,220 seats under the management quota. At Gandhi Medical College, 116 girls secured admission compared to 104 boys. Osmania Medical College admitted 117 girls and 96 boys.
Trend continues in PG and UG ranks
The university noted a similar trend in postgraduate rankings, with 65 out of the top 100 NEET-PG ranks belonging to girls. Compared with last year, the number of girls admitted to medical courses rose by 392.
KNRUHS Vice-Chancellor Nandakumar Reddy said, “For the 2024–25 academic year, girls secured 63.30% of seats under the convener quota and 61.32% under the management quota. The state government is prioritising construction of hostels for women in medical colleges as their numbers rise. Girls are also performing better in postgraduate courses.”
