Telangana Gig Workers Call Off Strike After Government’s Welfare Assurance
HYDERABAD: Gig and platform-based workers in Telangana have called off their indefinite strike after successful talks with the state government at the Secretariat on Friday. The strike was scheduled to begin on August 8.
Labour Minister Dr G. Vivek Venkatswamy met representatives of the Gig and Platform Workers’ Joint Action Committee (JAC). During the meeting, he assured them that the government would protect gig workers’ rights. He also promised early implementation of the Telangana Gig Workers Welfare Act, 2026.
Implementation guidelines soon
The minister said the government would soon issue guidelines for implementing the welfare law. In addition, he assured the unions that the government would consider their pending demands positively.
Vivek Venkatswamy said the government remains committed to extending social security and welfare benefits to gig and platform workers across Telangana. He added that the government wants to strengthen protections for workers in the growing platform economy.
Workers withdraw strike
Following the meeting, the Gig and Platform Workers’ JAC withdrew the strike call. The union welcomed the government’s assurances. It also expressed confidence that the Telangana Gig Workers Welfare Act, 2026 would soon take effect.
As a result, app-based delivery partners, cab drivers and other platform workers will continue their services without disruption. Consumers will also avoid inconvenience.
Overall, the agreement marks a significant step toward improving social security, strengthening working conditions and ensuring greater dignity for thousands of gig and platform workers across Telangana.
