Telangana gets record Rs. 5,337 crore budget allocation for railway projects in 2025-26

Hyderabad: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Monday, February 3, 2025, that Telangana has been allocated a record Rs. 5,337 crores for railway development in the financial year 2025-26. This is part of an overall investment of Rs. 41,677 crores for various railway projects across the state.

The announcement was made during a virtual press conference held by Vaishnaw, who highlighted the budget allocations for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The conference also included Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of South Central Railway, and senior railway officials from Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad.

The 2025-26 allocation marks a significant increase compared to previous years. Vaishnaw noted that the average budget outlay for the combined Andhra Pradesh state between 2009-14 was just Rs. 886 crores. This yearโ€™s allocation to Telangana represents nearly six times that amount.

A key achievement in Telanganaโ€™s railway development is the complete electrification of the stateโ€™s railway network. Telangana has also emerged as a leader in the installation of the Kavach system, a safety mechanism. The Centre of Excellence for Kavach is based in Secunderabad, and trials for the system’s latest version 4.0 are underway. To date, 1,465 kilometers of Kavach have been commissioned, with plans to extend it across the country in the next six years.

Vaishnaw also highlighted the operation of five Vande Bharat trains in Telangana, covering seven districts with nine stoppages. As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 40 railway stations in the state are being redeveloped.

The Union Minister announced the approval of 50 new Namo Bharat trains, 200 Vande Bharat trains, and 100 new Amrit Bharat trains, with their deployment to be announced in due course.

Additionally, Indian Railways is undertaking a mission to replace 7,000 kilometers of old railway tracks, with plans to upgrade tracks to enable train speeds of up to 160 km/h on key routes. Other sections will support speeds of 130 km/h, and the entire network will be upgraded to accommodate speeds of 100 km/h.
