Ganesh immersion holiday Telangana 2024

Hyderabad: The Government of Telangana has announced a holiday on September 17, 2024 (Tuesday), in observance of the Ganesh idols immersion procession across the twin cities of Hyderabad-Secunderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

This decision affects government offices, schools, and colleges in these areas, providing them with a day off to avoid any inconvenience during the Ganesh immersion procession.

To offset this holiday, the government has designated September 14, 2024 (Second Saturday), as a working day for all government offices, schools, and colleges in the affected areas. This adjustment is intended to ensure that essential services and educational activities remain uninterrupted despite the holiday on September 17.

In addition to declaring a holiday, the Hyderabad Police have issued a set of precautionary measures to ensure public safety and maintain order during the Ganesh immersion procession. One important announcement is the prohibition of fireworks during the procession to prevent accidents and provide a safe environment.

Organisers are advised to arrange vehicles for the idols well in advance. Vehicles transporting Ganesh idols must begin their journey early on the immersion day, with each vehicle displaying a unique number allotted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). Only one vehicle per Ganesh idol will be permitted. Additionally, the use of loudspeakers, musical systems, and DJs on these vehicles is prohibited.

The police have also banned the use of confetti guns for sprinkling colors. Individuals under the influence of alcohol or narcotic drugs will not be allowed in vehicles carrying Ganesh idols or within the procession. Participants are prohibited from carrying sticks, swords, knives, firearms, inflammable materials, or any other weapons. Sticks used for carrying flags or decorations must not exceed 2 feet in length and should be made of split bamboo.

Moreover, throwing vermillion, kumkum, or gulal at passers-by is not allowed. Political or provocative speeches, slogans, postures, banners, or any acts that could offend public sentiments are strictly prohibited. These measures ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly procession during the Ganesh festival.
