Telangana govt draws a roadmap for Future City road network

Listen to Story

Hyderabad: Revanth Reddy-led Congress government has started working on its ambitious project for building a fourth city, named as “Future City,” the other three being Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad. Officials from TSIIC, HMDA, and the Roads and Buildings Department are supervising the project.

The administration has devised a plan to build a road network to in and around the Future City. The government has already issued a notification for the acquisition of 458 acres of land while the requirement is for 1,000 acres of private land and the officials are carrying out a survey of the land for the project.

The work on the construction of radial roads connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the Regional Ring Road (RRR) has started already. The plan is to build a greenfield radial road from ORR interchange (with an exit at 13) at Raviryal to RRR at Amangal.

The proposed radial road will be 100 metres wide and have a six-lane lane configuration. This crucial road will connect the proposed Fourth City.

The proposed road network will span 41.5 km from Kongarakalan to Future City and will merge into the Regional Ring Road. Additionally, officials aim to acquire 1,000 acres of private land, with a notification issued for the acquisition of 458 acres in the first phase.

In view of the stiff opposition from the farmers during land acquisition in Lagacharla, Vikarabad district, Revenue officials will have a hard time in convincing the owners to part with their land parcels for the project. As per the 2013 Revenue Recovery Act, appropriate compensation is being provided to the affected farmers.

The Future City being developed at Mucherla in Ranga Reddy district requires a total area of 45,000 acres. The state government owns 15,000 acres in the region and another 15,000 acres of forest land is available. However, the government needs an additional 15,000 acres of land, which it will acquire from farmers.
