Telangana Food Safety Department Raids Units in Karimnagar, Vemulawada ; Seizes Suspected Unsafe Food
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Food Safety Department, along with the Police Task Force, carried out inspections in Karimnagar, Vemulawada and Hyderabad, uncovering suspected food safety violations. Officials seized raw materials, discarded unsafe food and initiated legal action against the establishments.
Joint operation targets alleged food safety violations in Karimnagar
Food Safety Department officials and the Police Task Force raided Megha Industries in Karimnagar. They found rough bran labelled “Not Meant for Human Consumption” allegedly being used to manufacture soya chunks.
The team seized 1,580 kg of rough bran and 750 kg of soya chunks. Officials sent samples to a laboratory to check whether the products meet food safety standards.
During the investigation, officials traced the rough bran to M/s Shivatara Grain Milling Pvt. Ltd. in Warangal. They later inspected the milling unit and seized 211 bags of rough bran weighing 49 kg each.
Hygiene lapses found at Vemulawada eatery
Food safety officials inspected Sri Laxmi Chat Bhandar in Vemulawada and found several hygiene violations. They discovered potatoes, onions and samosas infested with fungus and insects.
The team collected a sample of pani puri water for laboratory testing. Officials also discarded food they considered unsafe, issued an Improvement Notice and registered a case under Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.
Hyderabad pickle unit issued notice
Officials also inspected Deccan Achaar Factory in Hyderabad and found unhygienic conditions inside the premises.
The department issued a show-cause notice to the factory and registered a case under Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.
Commissioner warns of strict action
The Food Safety Commissioner said the department will continue strict enforcement against businesses that manufacture, store or sell unsafe or unhygienic food. The action will continue under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
