Food Safety Department seizes bran labelled unfit for human consumption from Karimnagar soya unit
Telangana : The Telangana Food Safety Department has launched multiple enforcement drives across the state, seizing rough bran allegedly used in the manufacture of soya chunks, collecting food samples for laboratory analysis and initiating action against food business operators for hygiene violations.
During a joint inspection with the Police Task Force at Megha Industries in Deshrajpalli village of Ramadugu mandal in Karimnagar district, officials detected the alleged use of rough bran labelled “Not Meant for Human Consumption” in the manufacture of soya chunks.
Officials seized 33 bags containing 1,580 kg of rough bran and 38 bags containing 750 kg of soya chunks. Enforcement samples were collected and sent to the State laboratory for analysis.
Follow-up inspection at grain milling unit
The department said the rough bran had been purchased from Shivatara Grain Milling Pvt. Ltd. in Warangal. A follow-up inspection at the milling unit resulted in the seizure of 211 bags of rough bran weighing 49 kg each. Officials also collected enforcement samples for laboratory analysis.

Hygiene violations found during inspections
At Sri Laxmi Chat Bhandar in Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla district, food safety officials found multiple hygiene violations, including poor food handling practices, insect- and fungus-infested potatoes, onions and samosas, and unhygienic storage of food articles.
A sample of pani puri water was collected for testing, unsafe food articles were discarded, an Improvement Notice was issued and a Schedule IV case was booked.
In Hyderabad, officials inspected Deccan Achaar Factory and issued a Show Cause Notice. A Schedule IV case was also initiated over unhygienic conditions at the unit.
The Food Safety Department advised all Food Business Operators to maintain hygiene and comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules and regulations framed under it. It warned that strict action would be taken against those manufacturing, storing or selling unsafe or unhygienic food products.
