Food Safety Inspections in Nacharam Uncover Violations

Hyderabad: A task force from the Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety conducted inspections at various pan shops in the Nacharam and Mallapur areas on September 21, 2024. The establishments inspected included Shree Maharaja Pan & Dry Fruits, Surabhi Pan Mahal, Pakwan Pan Shop, Bhavani Pan Shop, and Jolly Pan Shop.

Four of these five establishments were found operating without valid FSSAI registration. The inspections revealed significant hygiene violations, including a lack of dustbins, unclean conditions, and food handlers without proper hair caps, gloves, and aprons. Additionally, medical fitness and pest control certificates were unavailable, highlighting serious concerns regarding food safety.

Food safety officials instructed all establishments to obtain FSSAI registration or a license, as mandated by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. They highlighted the need for compliance with Schedule 4 requirements to ensure established hygiene and sanitary conditions.

Earlier, on September 20, 2024, food safety officials inspected Jalpaaan Restaurant in Somajiguda, where they found that the FSSAI license was properly displayed and food handlers were adhering to hygiene protocols.

However, the inspection also revealed that water analysis reports for the bottled water used in cooking were unavailable, and the refrigerator was in poor hygienic condition. Clogged drains and stagnant water were observed, along with expired food items discarded on the spot. The restaurant’s management did not cooperate when asked to provide access to the storeroom, and action will be taken as per the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006.

Additionally, inspections were carried out in Panjagutta at Meridian Restaurant, where officials noted that the FSSAI license was displayed and food handlers complied with hygiene requirements. Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were also available. However, inspectors found two windows open without insect-proof screens and suspected possible water seepage in the kitchen ceiling. Semi-prepared food items stored in the refrigerator were covered but not correctly labelled, though temperature records for the refrigerator were maintained.
