Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on unhygienic practices, the Telangana Food Safety Department has inspected a total of 387 hostels across the state in the past two months. The inspections, conducted by Food Safety teams along with ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ vehicles, targeted both private and government hostels/PGs.

A significant number of hostels were found operating without the mandatory FSSAI license or registration. Furthermore, the inspections revealed unhygienic practices in food preparation and storage across many facilities.

The Food Safety Department has issued notices to the concerned Food Business Operators (FBOs) highlighting the violations discovered. Officials have informed the FBOs about the statutory requirements of the FSS Act, 2006, and instructed them to obtain the necessary licenses immediately. Additionally, they have been briefed on proper food preparation and storage practices, along with the mandatory procedures outlined in the FSS Rules and Regulations, 2011.

The department has directed all hostel operators in Telangana to obtain FSSAI licenses and strictly adhere to the established food safety regulations. For guidance on the FSS Act and FoSTaC training, hostel operators can contact their designated food safety officer.
