Telangana steps up food safety drive with statewide surprise checks
HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has ordered intensified action against food adulteration and unhygienic food practices across the state, directing officials to conduct surprise inspections and strengthen enforcement of food safety regulations.
The decision follows directions from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju issued the instructions while chairing a high-level review meeting on food safety and public health.
Departments asked to improve coordination and enforcement
Jaju directed officials to step up surprise inspections across the state and ensure strict compliance with food safety standards. He also called for better coordination between the Drug Control Administration and the Food Safety Department to improve enforcement.
Officials were asked to submit proposals within a week to bring both departments onto a common platform and adopt best practices followed by other states.

The meeting also reviewed the status of food safety cases, staffing requirements and enforcement measures. Officials discussed steps to strengthen regulatory mechanisms and improve public health protection through more effective monitoring and enforcement.
