Final cold wave grips Telangana; mercury dips to 10°C in Asifabad

Hyderabad records 11°C, cold weather to continue until mid-January

HYDERABAD: The final cold wave of the winter season tightened its grip over parts of Telangana on Sunday, with minimum temperatures dipping to 10°C in Sirpur (Kagaznagar) of Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, according to weather observers.

Within the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the lowest minimum temperature of 12°C was recorded at the University of Hyderabad campus in Serilingampally. Moula Ali followed closely at 12.1°C, while Alwal recorded 14.1°C.

Several other localities in Hyderabad reported minimum temperatures in the 14–16°C range. Macha Bollaram recorded 14.4°C, Sivarampally and Tirumalgiri 14.5°C each, Rajendranagar 14.6°C, and West Maredpally and Qutbullapur 14.8°C. Gachibowli logged 15°C, while Neredmet was relatively warmer at 16°C.

North Telangana colder than Hyderabad

Northern districts continued to remain colder than the capital. Apart from Sirpur, Kohir in Sangareddy district recorded 10.1°C, while Bheempur in Adilabad logged 11.4°C. Marpalle in Vikarabad reported 12.6°C and Pembi in Nirmal district 13°C.

Other stations such as Kondapak (Siddipet), Kandukur (Ranga Reddy), Balanagar (Mahabubnagar) and Medaram (Mulugu) recorded minimum temperatures between 13.1°C and 13.4°C. Kalwakurthy in Nagarkurnool and Saloora in Nizamabad logged 13.5°C each.

Winter to end after February 12

Weather experts said similar temperature ranges are likely to persist for the next four to five days, until around February 12. After that, a gradual rise in night temperatures is expected, signalling the end of the winter season and the onset of spring-like conditions across the state.
