Excise Department seizes 36.1 kg ganja in two Telangana cases; six arrested
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Excise Department seized 36.1 kg of ganja in two separate cases in Bhadrachalam and Khammam on June 10 and arrested six people for allegedly transporting the contraband from Odisha to Hyderabad.
In the first case, excise officials in Bhadrachalam arrested five people and seized 13 kg of ganja being transported on motorcycles from Odisha to Hyderabad. Officials also seized three motorcycles and four mobile phones. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹9.9 lakh.
The arrested persons were identified as Shaik Azmatullah, Gangadhar Chauhan, Bonkuri Lokesh, Kodadala Ajay Kumar and Nimachand Adhikari.
Contraband seized during Konark Express inspection
In the second case, excise officials arrested one person, identified as Sebastika Biber, during an inspection aboard the Konark Express in Khammam district.
Officials seized 22.5 kg of ganja allegedly being transported from Odisha to Hyderabad. The contraband was valued at ₹11.32 lakh.
The two seizures together resulted in the recovery of 36.1 kg of ganja and the arrest of six accused.
Earlier seizure near Moula Ali railway station
In a separate incident on May 31, the Ranga Reddy Excise Enforcement team seized 2.9 kg of ganja and arrested a 23-year-old man near Moula Ali railway station.
Acting on specific information, a team led by Excise Enforcement Circle Inspector Subhash Chander conducted surveillance in the area and apprehended Suraj Majai, who was allegedly waiting to deliver the contraband to prospective buyers.
Officials said the ganja had been brought from Odisha. They also seized ₹10,300 in cash from his possession.
