EV push gains momentum as Telangana minister arrives at Assembly in electric vehicle

HYDERABAD: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on March 30 said the state government is actively promoting electric vehicles (EVs), highlighting incentives aimed at increasing adoption.
The minister arrived at the Telangana Assembly in an electric vehicle and described EVs as environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional transport.
Policy aims to improve Hyderabad’s air quality index
He said the government has exempted EVs from road tax and waived registration fees to make them more accessible.
“The Telangana government formulated an EV policy intending to maintain Hyderabad’s Air Quality Index. Government employees are being offered a 10–20 per cent discount on electric vehicles,” Prabhakar said.
Incentives targeted at affordability and wider adoption
The minister added that these measures are designed to encourage a shift towards cleaner mobility and reduce pollution levels in urban areas.
