Hyderabad engineering colleges fill 80% seats
HYDERABAD: Engineering colleges in Telangana have filled 80% of their available seats this year, with a large number remaining vacant in Computer Science and Information Technology-related branches.
Computer Science and IT-related courses recorded 82% occupancy. The final-phase seat allotment was released on Tuesday, with 3,281 candidates securing seats in the latest round.
Over 19,000 engineering seats remain vacant after counselling
Under the convenor quota in Telangana Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET) counselling, 94,156 seats, including those under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota, were available. By the final phase, 75,054 seats had been filled, leaving 19,102 vacant.
Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and 18 related branches together had 66,390 seats. Of these, 54,730 were filled and 11,660 remained vacant.
The electronics and electrical stream has nine branches. Of the 18,750 seats available in these courses, about 75% were filled.
Civil and mechanical engineering-related branches together had 7,872 seats, of which 5,378, or 68%, were filled.
Officials, however, expect a few hundred candidates allotted seats in the latest phase not to join their colleges.
Students must report to allotted colleges by August 7
Candidates allotted seats have to download their seat allotment orders from the counselling website. They must pay the tuition fee specified in the allotment letter online by August 7, complete self-reporting online and physically report at their allotted colleges.
The institution-wise figures in the source show 94,156 seats across 176 colleges, with 75,054 filled and 19,102 remaining vacant. Private colleges account for the bulk of the seats and vacancies.
Candidates who secured seats in the second phase but have now changed their college or branch must also report at their newly allotted colleges, TG EAPCET admissions convener A Sridevasena said.
Internal sliding allows students to change engineering branches
Sridevasena said internal sliding would be conducted on August 12 and 13 for students seeking a change of branch within their colleges. Interested students can apply for the process.
She said students would continue to be eligible for fee reimbursement even if they changed their branches through internal sliding.
