Engineering colleges in Telangana eye steep fee hike, submit proposals to TAFRC

Telangana Engineering Colleges Seek 50 100% Fee Hike

Hyderabad: Several prominent private engineering colleges in Telangana are pushing for substantial fee hikes starting with the 2025-26 academic year. The college managements have submitted proposals to the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC).

The last fee revision was done in 2022-23 and the engineering colleges have submitted their proposals following a notification from the TAFRC, which reviews and revises the fee structure of professional colleges every three years.

The proposals contain a demand for the massive fee hikes of 50 percent to 100 for the next three-year period, starting with the 2025-26 academic year. A review of these proposals submitted by the top 15 private engineering colleges revealed that five institutions have sought approval to charge over Rs 2 lakh towards annual tuition fees, while the remaining colleges have proposed a fee structure exceeding Rs 1.5 lakh per annum. In total, nearly 60 colleges have requested for a fee revision in the range of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. At present, 35 colleges charge a tuition fee of Rs 1 lakh and above.

The Fee Regulatory Committee will commence personal hearings for fixation from February 25 and a schedule will be issued on Friday, sources said. As per reports, this time a total of 157 colleges have applied for a fee hike. The committee will review the colleges’ final audited statements of income and expenditure, balance sheets, particulars of expenditure incurred on salaries etc before deciding on the proposed fee hike.
