Two Government Supplied Drugs In Telangana Recalled After Failing Cdsco Test

HDERABAD: As many as ten medicines manufactured in Telangana have failed quality tests conducted by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), which labelled them “not of standard quality” (NSQ).

The Telangana state drug control laboratory, in its report to CDSCO, listed the failed drugs — including antibiotics, antacids, painkillers, and an anti-nausea drug used for chemotherapy patients.

TGMSIDC recalls two defective medicines

Among the ten substandard drugs, two — rabeprazole gastro-resistant tablets (an antacid) and calcium carbonate tablets — were procured and supplied by the Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) for government hospitals.

A TGMSIDC official confirmed that both medicines were recalled from hospitals across the state. “An inquiry has been launched against the manufacturers. The remaining eight drugs will also be recalled,” the official said.

Sunrise Labs bl0cklisted after rabeprazole fails tests

The rabeprazole tablets, manufactured by Sunrise International Labs, Cherlapally, failed both the assay and dissolution tests, which measure active ingredient content and drug release rate. The tablets reportedly contained less than half of the required active ingredient.

“The product manufactured by Sunrise International Labs was bl0cklisted because it failed the assay test with less than 50% of the labelled content,” the TGMSIDC official said. “The full payment for the defective item will be deducted from the company’s dues, and no future orders will be placed. Additionally, 25% of payments for other products will be withheld for four months to monitor their quality.”

Calcium carbonate tablets fail visual test

The calcium carbonate tablets, manufactured by Revat Laboratories, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, failed the description test, which examines physical appearance, including colour, shape, and texture.

“In this case, the manufacturer has not been bl0cklisted because it is considered a minor violation,” the official said. “We will monitor the next two or three batches, and if they fail again, the company will be bl0cklisted. The affected batch was, however, immediately recalled from all government hospitals and distribution channels.”
