BOWRAMPET: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration on Tuesday conducted a raid at a quack’s clinic and seized drugs intended for sale in Bowrampet village, Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
Acting on credible information, officials from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration raided the premises of V. Naresh, a self-proclaimed ‘Medical Practitioner,’ operating without proper qualifications at his clinic ‘Jayasri First Aid Centre’ in Bowrampet Village, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, on April 22, 2024.
During the raid, officials discovered a large quantity of medicines stocked at the premises without any drug license. The stock, valued at Rs. 15,000, included 26 varieties of medicines such as antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, and anti-ulcer drugs.
Of particular concern were the antibiotics found at the clinic, as their indiscriminate sale by unqualified individuals could lead to severe health consequences, including the emergence of Antimicrobial Resistance.
Additionally, the presence of steroids at the clinic raised serious health concerns, as their misuse can result in immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular issues, and psychological effects.
The Telangana Drugs Control Administration officers, led by M. Hemalatha, drugs inspector of Gandimaisamma, conducted the raid under the supervision of G. Srinivas, Assistant Director of Medchal.
Samples were collected for analysis, and further investigations will be carried out, with appropriate legal action taken against all offenders.
Wholesalers/dealers supplying medicines to unqualified persons operating without a drug license are also liable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stringent action will be taken against such wholesalers/dealers.
Wholesalers/dealers must ensure that the recipient entities possess a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them.
The Telangana Drugs Control Administration issues drug licenses for the stocking and sale of medicines in compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking medicines for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Act, with imprisonment of up to five years.
Surprise inspections will be intensified on individuals engaging in the stocking and sale of drugs without a proper license, with strict legal action taken against violators.
