Proposed Double Decker Corridor Plan For Nh 65 Between Lb Nagar And Hayathnagar

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has proposed a ₹941-crore double-decker corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar along the busy NH-65 to ease rising traffic congestion. The 5.5-km corridor is expected to benefit nearly 10–12 lakh residents across 60–70 colonies.

Multi-Layered Design to Reduce Traffic

The corridor will feature three layers: a ground-level service road, the main highway above it, and a Metro rail corridor on top. Officials say this design will significantly reduce traffic pressure while improving connectivity for daily commuters.

The project cost is estimated at ₹941 crore, with the Centre contributing ₹741 crore and the State ₹200 crore. Furthermore, officials have submitted the proposal and are awaiting approvals. Once included in the Centre’s annual plan, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared.

Assembly Discussion Accelerates the Project

During the Assembly’s Question Hour, legislators raised concerns about severe traffic between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar. Consequently, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy confirmed that the government is actively pursuing the corridor as part of a broader urban mobility plan.

Part of a Larger Urban Mobility Strategy

Additionally, officials are exploring similar double-decker corridors on other stretches, including BHEL–Madinaguda. Inspired by the Nagpur model, these projects aim to improve travel efficiency and reduce congestion through modern infrastructure.

Once completed, the LB Nagar–Hayathnagar corridor could cut Hyderabad–Vijayawada travel to two to three hours. As a result, nearly 15 lakh residents are expected to benefit.

Addressing Local Infrastructure Challenges

Legislators also highlighted poor road conditions in Tandur. They welcomed the sanction of a flyover at Panama Junction in LB Nagar. Moreover, they suggested constructing foot overbridges near Ramoji Film City to enhance pedestrian safety.

Statewide Road Development Under HAM

Beyond Hyderabad, the government is developing 6,092 km of roads under HAM Phase-I across 34 packages. Tenders worth ₹13,006 crore have already been invited. Meanwhile, officials are conducting technical evaluations, with remaining approvals expected soon.

To ensure transparency and timely execution, a Direct Debit Mechanism for contractor payments has been introduced. Therefore, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy reaffirmed the government’s commitment to high-quality infrastructure and a safer, more efficient transport network.
