Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Doctors Association (T-JUDA) continues its strike in solidarity with RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and Regional Doctors’ Associations (RDAs) across the country. This protest comes in response to the brutal murder of a 31-year-old female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. T-JUDA has called for the implementation of a Central Protection Act for healthcare workers (HCWs).

Minister of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development of Telangana, Seethakka, has expressed support for doctors nationwide advocating for justice, including those at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad.

Doctors across Telangana are participating in rallies and protests, with some referring to the incident as “Nirbhaya 2.” Protests have been held at Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad, RIMS in Adilabad, and Government Medical College in Nizamabad. Nursing staff have also joined the protests today at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal.

The medical superintendent and doctors of Government General Hospital in Karimnagar have organised a black badge protest to honor the memory of the deceased doctor, a second-year postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. This event aims to show solidarity in response to her tragic death during her duty hours.

The doctor, who had been on duty, was discovered dead on August 9 after being sexually assaulted. This incident has sparked nationwide outrage and raised serious concerns about the safety of medical professionals, particularly women, across the country.

The Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) on August 13, 2024, has also called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the murder, highlighting the need for the culprits to be swiftly identified, apprehended, and brought to justice. “This incident represents a grave injustice to the victim and her family and poses a serious threat to the safety of all doctors who dedicate their lives to serving others,” the statement said.
