HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has proposed a major digital healthcare initiative in the 2026-27 Budget, outlining plans to prepare a comprehensive public health profile for every citizen in the state.

The initiative is intended to strengthen preventive healthcare services. Each individual will be issued a digital health card linked to their medical profile.

Officials said the government would ensure strict confidentiality in the management of health-related data. The digital system is expected to improve access to healthcare services and streamline patient records across institutions.

Under the newly launched Employees Health Scheme (EHS), separate digital health cards will be issued to about 23.51 lakh government employees, pensioners and their dependents. These beneficiaries will be able to avail cashless treatment for 1,998 diseases at 421 empanelled private hospitals and government facilities.

Focus on maternal, mental and chronic disease management

The government said the digital measures aim to strengthen the public health system with emphasis on maternal and child health, youth health, mental healthcare and control of chronic diseases.

For the broader Medical and Health Department, which will oversee these initiatives, the Budget has proposed an allocation of ₹13,679 crore.
