Telangana digital content removal

Hyderabad: K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former minister, has raised concerns about the removal of important content related to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) tenure from Telangana’s official websites. In a recent statement, KTR claimed that important historical content from the Telangana State Portal and Telangana Rashtra Utsavalu (2014-2023) has been deleted.

Taking to ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, KTR addressed Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, urging her to intervene and take swift action to address the “digital vandalism” of Telangana government websites and social media accounts.

KTR highlighted that this content, which documents the former Chief Minister KCR’s contributions, is public property and an integral part of Telangana’s history.

He mentioned the importance of preserving digital assets for future generations and cautioned that failure to do so could lead to legal action to protect the historical material.

Residents of Hyderabad have raised concerns about missing content and insufficient information on several official websites, including the Telangana State Portal, the Telangana State Police website, and municipal websites for Ameenpur, Narsingi, and Bandlaguda Jagir.

Additionally, the Hyderabad Mail reported that the official website lacks contact numbers for local range officials, creating challenges for residents who need to access vital services and emergency assistance. This absence of contact information has led to confusion and difficulties for the community in reaching authorities for urgent matters.

RTI Activist and the founder of the Know Your Rights NGO Srikhande Umesh Kumar highlighted the shift in public communication preferences, noting that people increasingly rely on phone numbers for direct contact rather than visiting offices in person. Kumar has requested that authorities check the website for potential technical issues and, if none are found, provide contact details or an email address for residents to submit their grievances and complaints.
