Telangana DGP launches ‘Arrive Alive’ road safety campaign

HYDERABAD: Director General of Police B Shivadher Reddy on Saturday announced a new state-wide road safety awareness campaign titled Arrive Alive to promote responsible driving and reduce accidents.
DGP launches ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign to promote road safety
The announcement was made at a meeting held at the DGP’s office, attended by senior police officials, representatives of voluntary organisations, corporate delegates and road safety experts.
Road accidents 10 times deadlier than murders, says DGP
Reddy said deaths in road accidents are nearly ten times higher than murders in the state each year. He stressed that road safety must be treated as a public priority. The Arrive Alive campaign will run for 15 days across Telangana in December, coinciding with World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on November 16.
The campaign aims to raise public awareness on road safety, ensure compliance with traffic rules, encourage defensive driving, and reduce accidents. “Arrive Alive must become a public movement,” Reddy said.

Collective effort from police, NGOs, and corporates
He urged coordination between the police, transport department, educational institutions, corporate firms, and NGOs to make the initiative successful. Reddy asked NGOs to consolidate their suggestions into a unified action plan for review at the next meeting on November 9 or 10.
Police officers were instructed to study best practices in road safety from other regions and adapt them for Telangana.
NGOs suggest mandatory training, AI-based safety app
Representatives of voluntary organisations recommended mandatory driver training before issuing permanent licences and inclusion of road safety education in school curricula. They also proposed setting up road safety parks and introducing Safety Connect, an artificial intelligence-based app to monitor driving behaviour and promote safe driving.
They suggested using social media to spread awareness through hashtags such as #ArriveAliveTG.

DGP promises full police cooperation
Reddy appreciated the NGOs for their useful suggestions and assured full support from the police department in implementing joint action plans. “Public participation, awareness, enforcement of road safety norms and defensive driving together form the key to reducing accidents,” he added.
Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M Bhagwat, Additional DGP (Multizone-II) Devendra Singh Chauhan, IGPs S Chandrasekhar Reddy, Dr M Ramesh, K Ramesh Naidu, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis, and other officials attended the meeting.
Among the NGO representatives were Tanmayi Deekshit (founder, Safety Connect), Naresh Raghavan (Top Driver), Malcolm Wolf (retired squadron leader), Lokendra Singh (HCSC volunteer), Anil Surya (IT project manager), Vinay Vangala (civil activist) and Vinod Kanumula (road safety expert).
