Telangana DCA seizes misleading ‘Rumarich Capsules’ in Hayathnagar
Ranga Reddy District: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has seized stocks of an Ayurvedic product, ‘Rumarich Capsules,’ from a medical store in Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, on November 18, 2024, for making misleading claims about treating rheumatism.
The product, manufactured by Modgal Ayurved Pharmacy in Koheda Village, Abdullapurmet Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, was found to be in violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The product’s label falsely claims that ‘Rumarich Capsules’ can treat rheumatic and arthritic conditions, which is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. This Act bans advertisements of certain medicines that make unsubstantiated claims regarding the treatment of specific diseases and disorders, including rheumatism. The law also prohibits the publication or promotion of misleading advertisements about drugs for treating ailments like these.
DCA officials, led by L. Raju, Drugs Inspector, Hayathnagar, raided the medical store in Vanasthalipuram, where the capsules were found and seized. Further investigation into the matter is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken against those involved in the illegal activity.
Under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, those found guilty of making such misleading advertisements face penalties, including imprisonment for up to six months, fines, or both.
V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, Director General of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, has urged the public to report any suspicious drug manufacturing or advertising activities. People can contact the DCA through its toll-free helpline at 1800-599-6969, operational on all working days from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
