Telangana DCA seizes improperly stored Tetanus Vaccine & Oxytocin Injections in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana raided the premises of Sri Nandini Pharma in Sultan Bazar, Hyderabad, on credible information and found temperature-sensitive medicines, Tetanus Vaccine and Oxytocin Injections, which were stored improperly at room temperature. These medicines were found on racks alongside general drugs, which is a violation of storage regulations.
Tetanus Vaccine and Oxytocin Injections must be kept in refrigeration at 2°C to 8°C to maintain their stability and efficacy. Storing them at room temperature can cause degradation, reducing their effectiveness and potentially harming patients.
During the raid, DCA officials seized stocks of the two medicines, valued at Rs. 10,000. Mithinti Srinivas, the proprietor of Sri Nandini Pharma, was present during the inspection. The raid was carried out by T. Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad, and V. Ajay, Drugs Inspector, Goshamahal.
Further investigation will be conducted, and legal action will follow against the accused. Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, improper storage of these medicines can result in imprisonment of up to two years.
Raid on Unlicensed Premises in Hanumakonda
On the same day, DCA officials conducted another raid at an unlicensed premises in Hanumakonda. Acting on credible information, they raided Mahima Clinic, located at Vinayaka Nagar Line 3, KUC Road. G. Pravin Kumar was found stocking drugs without a valid drug license.
The officers seized a large stock of 42 types of medicines, including expired drugs, habit-forming substances, vaccines, antibiotics, and steroids. The total value of the seized stock was Rs. 80,000. The raid was led by J. Kiran Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Hanumakonda, under the supervision of Dr. G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal.

Samples were taken for analysis, and further investigation will be carried out. Selling drugs without a license is a punishable offense under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, carrying a penalty of up to five years in prison. Wholesalers who supply drugs to unlicensed dealers can also face penalties.
