Counterfeit ‘Levipil 500’ Seized From Medical Store in Quthbullapur
HYDERABAD: Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, seized counterfeit versions of Levipil 500 (Levetiracetam Tablets 500 mg) during a raid on a medical store in Medchal–Malkajgiri district.
Officials said the operation was launched following intelligence inputs on spurious anti-epileptic tablets circulating in the market. A special enforcement team inspected Durga Medical and General Stores located in Sudharsan Reddy Nagar, Chintal, Quthbullapur village, Quthbullapur mandal.
Fake batch claimed to be manufactured by Sun Pharma
During the inspection conducted on January 22, 2025, DCA officers detected counterfeit strips of Levipil 500 carrying batch number STROBESA, with a manufacturing date of April 2004 and expiry date of March 2006. The tablets were falsely labelled as manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories in Vihar, the department said.
Officials noted that spurious medicines pose a significant risk as they fail to treat the intended illness and may lead to severe long-term health complications.
Action to follow against those involved
DCA said samples have been lifted for further analysis and legal action will be initiated against all offenders involved in stocking and selling counterfeit medicines.
The department reiterated that it is actively working to eliminate spurious drugs from the supply chain and protect patient safety.
