HYDERABAD: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, conducted statewide raids on January 21, 2026, as part of a special drive to curb antimicrobial resistance (AMR), officials said.

The inspections focused on checking the indiscriminate sale of antibiotics at medical shops across the state. Discrepancies related to antibiotic sales were detected in 190 medical shops during the drive.

Following the inspections, the DCA issued show-cause notices to the erring establishments for initiating departmental action.

Public advisory issued on AMR

Along with the enforcement action, the DCA issued a public advisory highlighting that the indiscriminate sale of antibiotics is a significant factor contributing to the emergence of antimicrobial resistance.

Officials said special emphasis during the raids was on identifying violations linked to the sale of antibiotics without proper compliance with drug control norms.
