Telangana Cyber Security Bureau recovers Rs. 1.1 crore from cyber fraud

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) successfully intercepted a fraudulent transaction and saved Rs. 1,10,70,000 of a cybercrime victim’s funds.

At 16:00 hrs, the 1930 Call Centre received a call from a Hyderabad resident, reporting an unauthorised debit of Rs. 1 crore from their bank account. The victim confirmed that no OTP or suspicious links were received, and the transaction occurred without their consent at 14:03 hrs that day.

The 1930 team quickly registered the complaint and contacted Punjab National Bank (PNB), where they managed to stop Rs. 75,69,223 from being transferred. However, the fraudster had already transferred Rs. 35 lakhs to other banks, which was also tracked and frozen by the team in coordination with bank authorities.

WPC G. Mounika and WSI Sirisha from the 1930 Call Centre acted swiftly, with support from WPC Swapna and PC Venkatesh, alerting the Nodal teams of several banks, including PNB, AU Small Finance Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Indian Bank. As a result, Rs. 1,10,70,000 was successfully put on hold across the banks. Efforts to recover the remaining Rs. 79,30,000 are still ongoing.

Shikha Goel, Director of TSCBB, advised citizens to report cybercrimes immediately to increase the chances of recovery. She also cautioned against clicking on unknown links or downloading files from untrusted sources.
